Veiled Path

The Veiled Path is an underground railroad that operated since at least 1085 SF. The "Veil" is a metaphor for the secrecy surrounding helping runaway slaves traveling from the Shangon Empire in the west to the Freelands in the east.
During the Bloodstone War, while slavery was still legal, the Veiled Path was loosely allied with the Freelands Republic.
Riverfast was used as one of many secret waystations on Path. The underground fort was cursed by the Imperial Army during the war.
