Tesseran Underdark

Legends describe an extensive network of natural caverns and tunnels deep beneath the surface of Oban. A wide variety of sentient species and horrible monsters are said to dwell in the Underdark, including duergar (dark dwarves) and drow (dark elves). Supposedly such beings cannot abide the light of the Tinker, but can move freely during the days of the Chill.

According to legend, in prior eras various forces of the Underdark vexed the surface-dwelling races, including raiding, kidnapping, and even invading. Heroes and armies always eventually drove them back. In time, all the major access routes were collapsed or blocked off. Rumors persist of very rare sightings of Underdark spawn on the surface, of secret routes re-opened, and even of unholy alliances between surface factions and Underdark powers.
