  • Plain olive-colored military fatigues (tunic and pants regardless of gender), undergarments, and socks
  • Dress tabard with a leather belt, with the Shagon Army coat of arms (and your family's heraldry, if you're nobility) (parade dress for trainees includes your armor, so your tabard is sized appropriately)
  • Metal rank badge (suitable for fastening to a belt or wearing as a poncho or cloak brooch)
  • Steel dagger with belt sheath
  • Leather boots
  • Field pack (external frame, oilskin)
    • Metal canteen
    • Mess kit
    • Twofer stone: a piece of flint fused with a piece of lodestone and embedded with a length of twine, thus suitable for sparking kindling and as a rudimentary compass
    • Wool-lined oilskin poncho with hood, embossed with the Shangon Army coat of arms
    • Wool gloves
    • Wool scarf
    • Code of Conduct (a one-sided, stamped-tin primer about 2x3 inches, with the very basic duties for all of Imperial soldiers, including pictograms for the illiterate)

For extended field operations, rations are distributed, and each trainee also carries either a two-man tent or two bedrolls.

All of the above is at least above-average quality. The Shangon Army is famous for not skimping on gear, to avoid "complications to efficiency" such as trench foot. Most of the above gear is stamped or created in a distinct way to ensure that a reputable merchant will know not to buy or resell it.
